Start With What You Are Noticing
You may notice excessive dust, stale air, dry winter conditions, basement humidity, musty odors, visible duct buildup or discomfort that changes from room to room.
Those symptoms do not automatically identify the cause.
Filtration, ventilation, humidity and duct conditions can affect one another. Duct cleaning does not identify or correct the source of an active moisture problem. A stronger filter cannot provide missing outdoor air. Humidity and particle measurements do not identify mold.
When the correct service is not obvious, 617 starts by inspecting and measuring the relevant conditions in the home.

Each service answers a different question. If several symptoms overlap, begin with an Indoor Air Quality Assessment.
Concerned about dust, particles or the filtration supporting your HVAC system?
617 evaluates the equipment, filter location, filter fit and airflow before recommending upgraded media or electronic filtration.
UV-C may be considered as a supplemental technology for application-specific microbial control at areas such as coils and drain pans. It does not capture dust or replace particle filtration.
Does the home feel stale, tightly sealed or short on fresh air?
ERVs and HRVs provide controlled ventilation by exhausting stale indoor air and bringing outdoor air into the home.
This service also includes makeup-air planning for high-capacity kitchen exhaust systems. We can evaluate replacement-air requirements, building pressure, controls, cold-weather operation and combustion-appliance considerations.
Is the home excessively dry or experiencing damp conditions?
617 measures humidity and material-moisture conditions, reviews seasonal patterns and evaluates how the HVAC system affects the home.
We recommend whole-home humidification or dehumidification equipment only when the findings support it.
Want to see what is happening inside the ductwork?
A scope-camera inspection documents accessible supply ducts, return ducts and trunk lines. It can reveal dust accumulation, disconnected sections, damaged ductwork, poor transitions and other conditions that cannot be confirmed from the registers.
Concerned about visible buildup inside the ductwork?
617 requires a video duct inspection before recommending or performing duct cleaning. Our scope cameras allow us to inspect the relevant duct areas, document existing conditions and identify repairs, suspected mold or other concerns that should be addressed before cleaning.
Concerned about possible mold in the air or HVAC system?
The homeowner hires and pays 617 HVAC directly. We coordinate the inspection and laboratory testing through an experienced independent mold-testing partner that does not perform remediation.
617 remains the customer's point of contact, reviews the results and explains the appropriate HVAC-related next steps.

How 617 Approaches Indoor Air Quality
We begin with what you are experiencing and review the relevant HVAC equipment, filtration, ventilation, humidity conditions and accessible ductwork.
We take readings appropriate to the concern and document useful findings with photos, video, measurements and equipment information.
We review what the findings show, what they do not establish and which next step makes sense.
One finding can change the correct order of work. Damaged ductwork may need repair before cleaning. Elevated humidity may require further investigation before equipment is selected. Suspected mold should be tested before affected material is disturbed.
That does not mean every home needs every service.
You receive the recommended scope and pricing before additional work begins.
Clear Limits and Responsibilities
Indoor-air and HVAC measurements can identify conditions that deserve attention, but they do not establish every underlying cause.
617 does not turn humidity or particle readings into a mold diagnosis. When mold is suspected, we coordinate independent testing before recommending the appropriate HVAC-related response.
We do not perform mold remediation, building-envelope investigations or foundation, drainage and water-intrusion inspections.
When findings point outside our scope, we explain why another qualified professional may be needed. Any referred contractor remains independently responsible for evaluating and performing its own work.
